Skin Care Night Routine

Step 1: Remove all your makeup

Never ever go to bed without washing off your makeup first! The most important thing to do to wake up looking fresh is to remove all of your makeup before bedtime no matter how tired you feel, this means leftover mascara, lip color, etc. This ensures that your pores will be clean and your eyes free of leftover gunk. You can use Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes (like Neutrogena or Garnier) to swipe away dirt, oil and makeup.

Step 2: Wash your face

wash your face with warm water and pick a daily cleanser based on your skin type (like clinique facial wash) and give your skin a good scrub to remove any leftover residue. Don’t forget to clean up any makeup you applied to your neck and chest to avoid unnecessary breakouts! Finally pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 3: Use Toner
If you are not using toners you are missing a lot! Toners remove deeper-embedded dirt and residues left behind by your cleanser. They’re also full of potent vitamins, antioxidants and botanicals that refresh and awaken your skin. Apply toner with a cotton pad and leave it to dry.

Step 4: Do a spot treatment

Apply any topical medications like acne treatment. It will dry up excess oil and kill bacteria in your problem spots. For best results, allow at least five minutes before layering on your next product to ensure it doesn’t knock out the benefits of the medication.

Step 5: Serum

Serums are nutrient-rich treatments, so it is better to keep them as close to the skin as possible. Consider investing in a serum for your skin type if there is a specific issue you are trying to target such as wrinkles, dark spots, blemishes or overall brightness.

Step 6: Use eye cream

Apply eye cream to help prevent collagen damage.

Step 7: Apply a moisturizer or face oil

Skin does the bulk of its repairing, restoring and regenerating as we sleep, that is why night creams are generally thicker and heavier, designed to be absorbed over the course of several hours. Not apply moisturizer will dry out your skin which will actually cause it to produce more oil.  A good quality moisturizer can even help to make fine lines and wrinkles less visible. Always apply from bottom to top because applying from top to bottom causes you to continuously tug down on the skin, which can lead to sagging.

Step8:  Pin your hair back

Your hair contains oils and dirt that can get on your face and pillowcase and cause breakouts. Braid your hair or pin it up into a bun to keep it off your face as you sleep.

Step 9: Turn on a humidifier

Many women believe that only people with dry skin can benefit from using a humidifier but the truth is that every person can benefit from a more humid environment, especially in the winter time. Set up your humidifier in an out-of-the-way location and make sure you fill up your humidifier as much as possible.

Step 10: Sleep on a silk pillowcase

Your face has more contact with your pillowcase than any other fabric. So, if you want to keep your face looking refreshed, your choice in pillowcase is very important. Silk helps keep moisture close to your skin and will help your skin stay more hydrated than many fabrics.

Step 11: Get eight hours of sleep

Catching a good night sleep can really affect your skin.  Sleep can reduce dark circles because a lack of sleep compromises your body’s circulatory system and you get stagnant blood in the vessels under the eyes because it has not properly drained. Lack of sleep also causes your skin to look pale and tired because your circulation has been impaired.

Morning Shower Routine

Shower should be more than an exercise that you are in, you are out and you feel clean. It should be a way for healthy, shiny hair and clear, glowing skin. Here are some steps to make your shower more fun and relaxing

The night before

Step 1: cover your hair with coconut oil and leave it over night which will make your hair healthier and shiner.

The next morning

Step 2:  Dry brushing your skin

Brush your skin toward the heart, starting at the feet and hands and brushing toward the chest. This will help stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and help the body detoxify itself naturally. In addition, dry brushing is one of the simplest and most natural ways to exfoliate skin.

Step 3: Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse under warm water for at least 10 seconds to loosen dirt and oil.

Step 4: Proper Shampooing

Pour some shampoo into your hands and gently massage it in using a back and forth motion. Never scrub fragile ends, the roots are actually what collect the most oil. Finally, rinse until the water runs clear of suds. (My favorite is Lush Big Shampoo)

Step 5: Conditioning

The conditioner should be concentrated around your ends and not your roots so it won’t leave your hair appear greasy. Leave for a 1 minute or 2 while you clean your body then rinse it properly.

Step 6: Cleanse Your Body

Stay away from traditional soaps which can irritate and dry your skin. Choose a non-soap hydrating shower gel like L’OCCITANE Almond Shower Oil. Note that  loofahs and washcloths can become breeding grounds for bacteria and mold so sure you keep your loofahs dry and clean, replace them fairly regularly.

Step 7: Exfoliation

Use a scrub (like Lush ocean salt) over your skin in small, circular motions.  Start at the ankles because it helps to encourage positive blood circulation during the exfoliation process.  Make sure to give extra attention to your heels, elbows, and knees. These are generally considered to be the driest parts of one's skin, and should be given greater attention accordingly.

Step 8: Shaving

It is better wait until the end of your shower to start shaving. The hot water and steam soften your hair, making it less likely to tug and cause irritation.

Step 9: Wash your face

Wait until you’re completely finished shampooing and conditioning to ensure you are washing away all pore-clogging product runoff. Turn the water temperature to lukewarm to protect the delicate skin on your face and do your final rinse in cool water to tighten up your pores thus make pores virtually imperceptible.
